Duracell Opens $56 Million Atlanta Innovation Center at Science Square
The battery maker’s new research hub places engineering and product development near Georgia Tech—and expands an existing Georgia footprint.

ATLANTA, Ga. Duracell has opened a $56 million global research and development center at Science Square, the innovation district near Georgia Tech. The company unveiled the site on October 6, 2026, bringing another major corporate research operation to Atlanta.
What opened at Science Square?
The new facility covers approximately 83,000 square feet and includes laboratories for developing and testing battery technology. Company leaders say the goal is to move new ideas more quickly from research to products.
An earlier economic-development announcement described a commitment to create 110 jobs. Coverage of the opening describes a facility expected to employ 120 workers; those figures refer to different reporting points and should not be treated as a confirmed count of people already hired.
Why Georgia matters to Duracell
The Atlanta hub puts researchers near Georgia Tech and the surrounding pool of scientists, engineers and startup talent. It also complements Duracell’s existing Georgia operations, which include manufacturing in LaGrange and distribution in Fairburn.
That combination is part of the economic story: Georgia can host product research, production and distribution within the same broader business network.
What residents and businesses should watch
The announcement is a sign of demand for high-skilled research work and supporting services, but a new facility does not guarantee immediate opportunities for every nearby worker or small business. Future hiring and supplier activity will determine how broadly the investment’s benefits are felt.
The Georgia inside the story
Atlanta is often discussed as a headquarters, logistics and entertainment city. Duracell’s new research center illustrates another part of its identity: a place where products can be invented and tested. For Georgia, the story is the growing link between university research, established industry and future jobs.
